First day of school!

So today was my first day of school! I did not have class until 11:30 (actually my earliest class), so I grabbed some food at the dining hall and went to the exercise room by my dorm. I cam back, got ready, and then headed off to campus where I had my music class. I bought a cup of coffee at Café Strata on my way. First, strangely, I had my discussion section for the class and then after I had the lecture. The teacher, Scott Foglesong, was enthusiastic, funny, and very approachable. It is going to be a great class!
Tonight I am going to turn in the paperwork to join my first activity here at Cal! I am joining the ballroom dancing team and am super stoked about it. They have been giving free dance lessons all week which I have been attending and having a blast! Tonight we are doing tango!

At Cal!

So I arrived at Berkeley on Saturday, got settled in, and have since been exploring and going to welcome activities that are going on this week. My dorm is at the top of a hill, so I am getting lots of exercise walking to my various destinations. I rode my bike once too. It was a pleasure riding down the hill, but riding back up was nearly impossible! Yesterday I went to Caltopia, where various local venders and school organizations had booths set up and were giving away free merchandise and food. It was crazy! I was full after leaving. Later we had a hall meeting. Our RA is great (the only male RA in the building) and we all got to know each other which was really fun! Today I went to the FPF open house type thing where students and professors mingled. First my roommates and I stopped bythe dining hall for breakfast. Unfortunately it was already closed (apparently it is only open until 9:00 for breakfast). So we stopped by an adorable café on the way to the FPF campus. It will definitely be a studying spot for me later. The FPF gathering was fun and I met many new people there as well as one of my professors. I walked through campus and got some lunch. Later I am going to go to a welcome address for new students out on Memorial Glade field. The chancellor and president will be speaking there and there will be a free picnic. So far so good! Classes start on Thursday which is very exciting!

Closet Clean-Out

I cleaned out my closet today, with the help of my lovely assistant, Brian. My main problem is that the space in which I hang my dresses is completely full. So, we took out all dresses that are not practical for the season, and put stored them in bins under my bed. We put the ones that I don't wear in a bag headed for Crossroads (where we made a whopping $5). We then tackled my coat rack and my window seat trunk that contains sweaters and jackets. We got rid of about six pairs of shoes and some old purses. I am so exhausted!

Carmen March

Time for Coats!

Ice on my windshield. Christmas lights. I can see my breath. Well, it is winter, and in other words, it is time for coats! And I am excited! My yellow coat lasted me through last year and now I am in the market for another fabulous coat that will keep me warm and stylish. Where to buy a coat? Usually Pacific Trading Co., New Deal, or H&M are my go to places for outerwear, but there are some great online stores with sweet coats and more. Visit www.tulle4us.com and check out their adorable retro style coats. I have owned several coats from this brand and love their funky, cute selections. They are high quality, unique in style, and reasonably priced. Also www.modcloth.com has great www.coats. us.topshop.com can be pricey but has great stuff.

Gold

Having darker skin and hair, I have always been drawn to golds, burnt yellows, browns, earthy reds. I have very little silver jewelry but always pick out dangling gold earrings and necklaces. Yesterday I decided to pull out my shiny gold and brown antique print coat. I bought it at a yard sale, but it is Banana Republic. It is pretty flashy, so I paired it with a simple black short sleeved turtleneck, jeans, gold flats and gold jewelry. I blow dried my hair straight and wore it down. That little bit of shine made my outfit so much more interesting and fun.
